Aleh Negev-Nahalat Eran Status Report –
As of January 2008
Background:
The Aleh Negev Rehabilitative Village is being established in the area of the regional council of Merhavim, near Ofakim, on an area measuring 25 acres. Aleh Negev will provide a solution for the needs of the adult population of the network of Aleh centers, as well as for children in the south of Israel in need of a special education framework outside of the home.
The State of Israel resolved in June 2002 (resolution #2032) to help establish Aleh Negev as part of its endeavor to develop the city of Ofakim and the surrounding region.
The project is being executed by the Southern Development Authority and is supervised by the relevant governmental ministries.
Stage 1 of the project, estimated at a cost of US$ 23,800,000 (US$1 = 4.2 NIS), has been completed. Fundraising for the rest of the project, estimated at a cost of US$20,000,000, is underway.
Residency continues gradually to ensure successful acclimation. At present, Aleh Negev has 80 residents.
Concurrently, construction continues on the rest of the buildings and landscaping development.
Construction and Timetable:
I. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Residential Units – (Om Bros.)
Three Residential Buildings and Case-Manager Building – project completed, 72 residents living in the apartments
Fourth Residential Building and Case-Manager Building – construction nearly complete, residency to begin shortly
During 2008 another 24 residents will join the village.
II. Vocational Training Center – (Om Bros.)
Wing A - completed and populated
Vocational workshops include ceramics, paper recycling and silk workshops. Physiotherapy treatments given on-site during work hours.
Wing B - to include another three workshops, to incorporate special-needs people from the community
Given out to tender, contractor chosen
Aleh Negev inter-ministerial committee has decided that changes in interior design/room breakdown necessary
New plans to be completed February 2008
Construction to begin immediately afterward
Anticipated date of completion: December 2008
III. High-Dependency Hospital Project – (Moshe Avisror and sons)
Wing I: The Safra Hospital
Wing II: The Rich Foundation Hospital
Project completed
Hospital opened in November 2007, current 8 residents
During the year 2008 the hospital will accept another 20 children
IV. Safra Paramedical Center – (Moshe Avisror and sons)
Project completed
Offers paramedical treatments to residents of Aleh Negev as well as outpatient treatments for special-needs people throughout the southern region
Child-development Center offering 100 outpatient treatments monthly
Specialized Dental Clinic opened in November 2007
Unique Adult Rehabilitation Center to open during the year 2008
V. Logistics Center – (Moshe Avisror and sons)
Completed and functioning, including Laundromat and Kitchen
Therapeutic Equipment Workshop, where rehabilitative devices and equipment will be created and adapted, to open shortly
VI. Special Education School Complex –
(Bonei Binyan, through Local Governmental Economic Services Ltd)
Project completed
School opened in September 2007 – current 4 classes with 25 children from the village and the surrounding region
Two new classrooms to open during the year 2008, with acceptance of 12-15 more children
